-
- 1: Installing Money 2000 Requires Hard Disk Space On Windows Drive
-
- When you install Money 2000, Money requires that you install
- Internet Explorer 5, if it is not already on your computer.
- This requires up to 70 MB of disk space on the drive Windows is
- installed on. After installing Internet Explorer, you can choose
- the drive you want to install Money 2000 onto.
-
- NOTE: If you already have Internet Explorer 5,
- installing Internet Explorer 5 will require less space.
-
- If you are low on disk space (less than 200 MB free if installing both
- Money and IE 5, less than 80 if you are just installing Money 2000)
- and want to free up more space on your hard drive, you can safely
- delete the contents of the media folder. To do this, go to
- the folder in which you installed Money, click on the media folder
- and delete all the files in the folder.
-
- Deleting these files will prevent you from watching the two
- Introductory videos and the audio in the Money Setup Assistant,
- but will not prevent you from using any other features of Money 2000.
-
- If you change your mind later, you can always reinstall Money and
- these files will be restored
-

- 8. In the Update DirectShow Status dialog box, click OK.
- 9. Click Close.
- 10. On the Windows Media Player, click Exit on the File menu.

-
- 3: Running Money 2000 And Older Versions Of Money On The Same Computer
-
- Installing Money 2000 on the same computer as an older version of
- Money will prevent the older version from working correctly.
- If you want to go back to your earlier version of Money, you
- should uninstall Money 2000 and reinstall the older version of
- Money from the original disks.
-
- If you use Online Services in Money 2000, you will need to go
- through Step 2: Investigate Offerings in the Online Services area
- again after reinstalling Money 99.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 4: Money Not Compatible With Internet Explorer 5.0 Beta
-
- Please upgrade to the released version of Internet Explorer 5.0
- before using Money. All retail versions of Money will automatically
- upgrade you to the released version of Internet Explorer 5.0 as part
- of the normal installation process.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 5: Money Not Compatible With Windows 2000 Beta
-
- Please upgrade to the final release of Windows 2000 to use Money
- 2000.
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 6: Run Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack #4
-
- If you are running Windows NT 4.0, you need to install Windows NT
- Service Pack #4 (or later) to use Money 2000 successfully. Follow
- these steps:
-
- 1. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/support.
-
- 2. Click Drivers and Other Downloads.
-
- 3. Click Service Packs.
-
- 4. Click Windows NT Server and Workstation.
-
- 5. Click 4.0.
-
- 6. For U.S. and Canadian users, click the following link:
-
- 128-BIT.TXT: How To Obtain the 128-bit version of Windows
- NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 7: File Size And Money 2000
-
- The file format used by Money 2000 lets the Money team create
- powerful features such as the Advisor FYI, the Lifetime Planner,
- and the Monthly Report (all available for Deluxe users). You might
- notice that your converted Money 2000 file is bigger than your old
- Money 95 or Money 97 file. It might be slightly larger than your
- Money 98 or 99 data file.
-
- However, you'll find that Money's compressed backup files are much smaller
- than your regular file. So if you need to take your data file to
- another computer, you'll want to use the File/Backup command.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 8: Internet Connections Require WinSock-Compliant ISP
-
- Money 2000 allows you to make many connections to the Internet to
- gather information and advice about your finances. To connect to
- the Internet, you need an Internet service provider (ISP) that
- works directly with the 32-bit WinSock included with Windows 95,
- Windows 98, and Windows NT.
-
- Most full-service Internet providers (those not requiring custom
- software to access their service) will support the 32-bit WinSock.
- If you have questions about your Internet connection
- compatibility, ask your ISP if it supports the Windows 32-bit
- WinSock.
-
- NOTE: If your ISP is America Online, make sure that you are using
- America Online Version 3.0a for Windows 95 or a later (not
- preview) version.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 9: Restart Windows After Upgrading Internet Service Provider (ISP)
-
- If you install new software from your ISP, you should restart
- Windows before attempting to make an Internet connection in Money.
- Failure to restart after upgrading your ISP software may cause
- miscellaneous errors in Money 2000.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 10: Internet Explorer Security Settings
-
- The following security settings are recommended when making
- Internet connections in Money.
-
- 1. On the Money Tools menu, click Connection Settings.
-
- 2. Click the Security tab.
-
- 3. In the security settings area, select the Internet zone (globe icon)
-
- 4. Using the slider below, move the slider to High (most secure).
-
- Note: Internet Explorer 5.0 or later is required to run
- Money, but Money still allows you to use your default browser.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 11: Internet Options May Cause Money 2000 Areas To Wash Out
-
- If you modify your Internet Explorer Multimedia settings and clear
- the Show Pictures check box, several places in Money may appear
- washed out and the text may be unreadable. Follow these steps to
- resolve the problem:
-
- 1. On the Tools menu, click Connection Settings.
-
- 2. Click the Advanced tab.
-
- 3. Scroll down until you see the Multimedia section.
-
- 4. Check the Show pictures box.

- 12: MSN Internet Access Offers Two Free Hours Per Month To Money 2000 Retail Users
-
- MSN Internet Access and Microsoft Money 2000 have teamed
- up to provide you with two hours of Internet access per month.
- This should allow you to take full advantage of Money's Internet
- features at no charge.
-
- This offer is for users of the Windows 95 operating system or
- later and includes MSN client access software only. You must
- additionally subscribe to MSN to access the service. This offer

- through 12/31/2000. Each additional hour will be billed at
- $2.50/hr (U.S). After 12/31/2000, customers will be charged the
- then-current rate for MSN's standard membership plan. This offer
- is available to new members of MSN in the 50 United States and the
- District of Columbia only. A credit card is required. MSN premium
- charges, access charges (if access is purchased from a provider
- other than MSN), local phone, and/or long distance toll charges

-
- To install MSN on Windows 95, follow these steps:
-
- 1. Insert your Money 2000 CD-ROM.
-
- 2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.
-

-
- 3. Click the Windows Setup tab.

- NOTE: You may be prompted to insert your Windows 98 CD-ROM.
-
- After the installation is complete, click Start on the Windows
- taskbar, point to Program Files, point to Online Services, and
- then click The Microsoft Network.
-
- NOTE: If you are running Windows 98, do not install the version of
- MSN found on the Money 2000 CD-ROM, as this version is not
- intended for Windows 98. Install the MSN version available on the
- Windows 98 CD-ROM.
-

-
- 13: Windows NT Error If You Remove Remote-Access Service
-
- If you are running Money 2000 on a Windows NT 4.0 system and
- remove Remote Access Service (RAS) after establishing a RAS
- Internet connection method, Money reports an error if you attempt
- to make an Internet connection.
-
- If you are running Dr. Watson for Windows NT, Dr. Watson reports
- an application error in MSMONEY.exe at Address 0x00000000.
-
- If you are not running Dr. Watson, Windows NT reports an
- Application Error that states:
-
- The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at
- "0x00000000".
- The memory could not be "read".
-
- Reinstall Remote Access Service to resolve this error. Refer to
- Windows Help for instructions on installing Remote Access Service
- on Windows NT.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 14: Cannot Access Some Features On Windows NT With User Rights
-
- When you update internet information, investigate offerings in
- Online, or access other areas that save settings to the Windows
- Registry, you may receive error messages unless you are logged on
- to Windows NT with a user name that has administrative rights to
- your machine. To have full access to all of Money's features, you
- should run Money when logged on with administrator rights.
-

-
- 15: Money 2000 On Windows 98 Hangs If Modem Not Plugged In To Phone Line
-
- Money may hang in the Initializing and Contacting Server portion
- of the Call Progress dialog box. This occurs if you are using
- Windows 98 and try to make a direct modem connection in Money 2000
- while the modem is not connected to a phone line. You cannot use
- any other Windows 98 modem application.
-
- The solution is to restart Windows and make sure that the modem
- is plugged in to the phone line before attempting to make a direct
- modem connection.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 16: Windows 98 Issues With U.S. Robotics ISDN Modem And Regular Modem
-
- If you are using Windows 98 and have a U.S. Robotics 128k ISDN
- adapter installed, Money 2000 may hang or return the following
- error message when you try to connect to your online banking
- service provider:
-
- Money could not complete the call due to a problem with your
- modem installation.
-
- For information on how to troubleshoot this error, refer to the
- Microsoft Knowledge Base article, "Money: Online Banking Hangs
- with U.S. Robotics ISDN Adapter Installed." This article is
- available at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q160/0/51.asp.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 17: Disable Remote WinSock If You Dial Up Directly To The Internet
-
- If you are establishing Dial-Up connections directly to the
- Internet (using an Internet service provider or Dial-Up connection
- through MSN), you need to disable Remote WinSock. You may not need
- to disable Remote WinSock if you are dialing into a LAN or using a
- corporate intranet. Consult your network administrator.
-
- 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- 2. Click WinSock Proxy Client.
- 3. Clear the Enable WinSock Proxy Client check box.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 18: Trouble With Online Services Using Internet Explorer 5.0
-
- If you install Money 2000 after you've installed the final release
- of Internet Explorer 5.0, you might need to download Microsoft
- Strong Encryption from the Money Web site in order to use Online
- Services. Install this fix ONLY if you are using Internet Explorer
- 5.0 and have received an error message telling you that you need a
- higher level of data encryption.
-
- You can download the 128-bit Microsoft Strong Encryption from
- http://www.microsoft.com/money/security.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 19: Printer Drivers
-
- If you experience problems printing in Money 2000, you should get
- an updated driver from the printer manufacturer. This is often the
- first step in troubleshooting printing problems.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 20: Continuous Feed Wallet Checks On Windows NT
-
- If you are using continuous feed (dot-matrix) checks on Windows
- NT, Money skips two checks after the fourth check in a series.
- For this reason, wallet-sized continuous feed checks are not
- recommended for Windows NT users.
-
- If you must use continuous feed wallet checks on a Windows NT
- system, you should not print more than four checks at a time.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 21: Printing Partial Sheets Of Checks On Sheet Feed Printers
-
- Money defines a partial sheet of checks as when you have removed
- at least one of the checks from a single sheet prior to loading
- the sheet of checks into the printer. Money prints partial sheets
- of checks in landscape mode. (This orientation is similar to how
- you print an envelope.)
-
- Printing partial sheets of checks (single-sheet style) is not
- supported by all laser or inkjet printers. Due to the feed
- mechanisms of some printers, it is difficult to align and print on
- partial sheets of checks.
-
- The following printers have been tested and shown to have problems
- printing partial checks in Money:
-
- Apple Color LW 12/660
- Canon Bubble-Jet BJC 4550
- Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-610
- Epson Stylus 1520
- Epson Stylus 800
- Epson Stylus Color Esc/P 2
- HP Color Laser Jet 5
- HP LaserJet 5000
- HP LaserJet 6P
- HP LaserJet Indra
- HP LaserJet 4MV
- IBM 4019 Laser Printer
- Lexmark ExecJet IIC 4076
- Tektronix Phaser 360
-
- If your printer has difficulty feeding partial checks in landscape
- mode, you can order Laser Voucher checks that never have partial
- sheets. You can also print Laser Standard or Laser Wallet checks
- in batches of three.
-
- Depending on the feed mechanism of the printer, the following
- method might work to feed partial check sheets:
-
- 1. Load the partial sheet into the printer as if it were a full
- sheet. Push the sheet all the way into the tray.
-
- 2. On the File menu, click Print Checks.
-
- 3. Verify that the number of checks to print equals the number of
- checks remaining on your partial sheet. If the number of checks
- to print is incorrect, follow these steps:
-
- a. Click Selected Checks.
-
- b. Select up to the number of checks remaining on the partial
- sheet.
-
- c. Click OK.
-
- 4. Make sure to enter the correct check number for the first
- check.
-
- 5. In answer to the question "How many checks are on the first
- page?", click Three. This causes Money to print in portrait
- orientation.
-
-
- NOTE: Harland, the provider of checks for Microsoft Money, offers
- a Laser Form Leader (order # FL-L ) that you can use to feed
- partial sheets of checks through a printer in portrait
- orientation.

-
- 22: Tour, Video, And Audio Help Requirements
-
- - You must have the Money 2000 CD in your CD-ROM drive in order
- to view most of Money's multimedia audio or videos.
-
- - The Money Video Help, and Audio Help are not available
- in all versions of Money. These are not available if you
- downloaded the Trial version of Money 2000 from the Web or a CD Trial version. If
- Money came pre-installed on your computer, these may or may not
- be available, depending on the version on Money installed by
- your computer manufacturer.
-
- - To run the Tour, you need to have RLE Codecs installed. See
- below.
-
- - The Videos, and Audio Help are best experienced when
- your speakers are turned on and the volume is set
- appropriately.
-
- - To run the Videos, you must have Windows Media Player
- and Internet Explorer 5.0 or later installed. Money installs
- these automatically when you install Money 2000 and Internet
- Explorer.
-
- - If you have manually removed either of these applications,
- you'll need to reinstall them.
-
- If you need to reinstall Internet Explorer, run the
- IE5setup.exe program from the IE folder on the Money CD-ROM.
-
- If you need to reinstall Windows Media Player, run the MPIE4STD.EXE
- program from the IE folder on the Money CD-ROM.
-
- - Your Internet Explorer security settings should be set to the
- default of Medium, or lower to run the Tours for the first
- time.

-
- 23: How To Install Microsoft Video Codecs In Windows 95 & Windows 98
-
- Video Codecs are used to play compressed files by decompressing
- them in memory. Adding a specific Codec lets you play files
- compressed in that file format. Money uses the Microsoft RLE Video
- Codec to display the tours and the Help videos.
-
- If the Microsoft Video Codec is not installed, use the following
- steps to install the Codec:
-
- 1. In Control Panel, double-click Add New Hardware.
-
- 2. For Windows 95, click Next, click No, and then click Next.
- For Windows 98, click Next twice, click No, and then click Next
- again.
-
- 3. Click Sound, Video, And Game Controllers, and then click Next.
-
- 4. Click Microsoft Video Codecs from the manufacturers list, then
- select RLE.
-
- 5. Click OK.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 24: How To Install Microsoft Video Codecs In Windows NT 4.0
-
- 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
-
- 2. Double-click Multimedia.
-
- 3. Click the Devices tab, and then click Add.
-
- 4. In the List of Drivers box, click Microsoft RLE CODEC, and then
- click OK.
-
- 5. Click OK to close the Multimedia Properties dialog box.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 25: Display Color Settings
-
- While Money 2000 contains some color scheme options that may work
- in 16-color mode, Money 2000 was designed to work in 256-color
- mode or higher.
-
- The Money 2000 multimedia tours and help videos are designed to
- work in 256-color mode or higher. If you run these in 16-color
- mode, the tours and videos may run slowly or may be illegible. For
- this reason, it is highly recommended that the tour and videos
- never be run using this color setting.
-
- To check or change your color mode, follow these steps:
-
- 1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click
- Control Panel.
-
- 2. Double-click Display.
-
- 3. Click the Settings tab.
-
- 4. Check the Color Palette setting to see which mode your computer
- is running in. If your video card supports 256 colors, you'll
- see that option in the Color Palette drop-down menu.
-
- 5. Choose 256 Color from the list, and then click OK.
- Windows will ask if you want to restart your computer so the
- change can take effect. Click Yes.

-
- 26: How To Obtain Euro Currency Symbol
-
- If you enable Money 2000 for the Euro currency, Money may not
- correctly display the Euro currency symbol. For more information
- on this issue, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article,
- "Money 2000: How to Obtain the Euro Symbol." This article is
- available at
- http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q156/1/81.asp.

-
- 27: Quicken Versions Supported By The Quicken Conversion Wizard
-
- Money can convert data files from Quicken versions 4, 5, 6, 7, and
- 8 (Quicken 99).
-
- _________________________________________________________________
-
- 28: Checks Remaining To Print Do Not Increment
-
- If you use the Print Checks Reminder in the Account Register area,
- Money does not increment the number of remaining checks the next
- time you print checks. There are two workarounds for this problem:
-
- - Navigate to the Bills or Account Manager area before printing
- checks. If you use the Print Checks Reminder in these areas,
- Money does correctly increment the number of checks you have
- remaining on your sheet of checks.
-
- - Manually update the number of checks remaining on your sheet of
- checks whenever you print checks.
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 29: QIF Features Not Supported by Money 2000
-
- Money cannot import transactions available in some Quicken
- Interchange Format (QIF) files for the following:
- - Invoice accounts
- - Bill accounts
- - Business lists
- - Security lists
-
- __________________________________________________________________
-
- 30: Payee Address From Early Versions Of Money
-
- If you convert a file created in Money 2 or 3, the payee address
- for payees originally created in these early versions will not
- appear in the Invoice area. To resolve this, delete the address
- from the Payee Details General Information tab. Switch to the
- Billing of Shipping Information tab, and then switch back to the
- General Information Tab. Retype the payee address information in
- the individual fields.
-
- For more information, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base
- article: "Money 99 P&B: Payee Address Does Not Appear in Invoice."
- This can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q191/3/22.asp

-
- 31: Removing Outlook Express Causes Error Accessing Contact Manager
-
- You may see the following error if you try to launch the Contact
- Manager within Money:
-
- Files required for this feature have been removed or have
- become corrupted. You need to run Money Setup again to install
- this feature.
-
- This occurs if you remove Outlook Express. Money 2000 Business &
- Personal cannot locate the Windows Address Book used by the
- Contact Manager. Reinstall Money to eliminate the error message.
-
-
